Global Government support for Startups

Entrepreneurship seams to be a popular topic right across the world at the moment. According to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), 250 millions small businesses have been started in the last 5 years; it is quite obvious that these start-ups will have an influence on the economy and local development.

This situation called for government to effectively support today’s entrepreneurs. The result was a week held for global entrepreneurs now featuring the Startup Open, a competition held to recognize the top 50 small businesses around the world and rewarding them accordingly.

The 2011 Startup Open winners have already been announced, so be sure to enter next year.

 

VisiCalc Spreadsheets celebrate 32nd Birthday

VisiCalc just celebrated its 32nd birthday and the inventors, Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston, were invited to hang out with the Google Docs team – for they had to celebrate this revolutionary product that laid the foundation for the Docs’ success.

Being the first ever spreadsheet for personal computers, this tool is considered to have changed the way computers had been viewed. Its release in 1979 instantly turned the average pc from a toy to a business instrument.

LucidChart added new tools

Spelling mistakes take away a lot from a document’s effectiveness. We’re all happy with how easy LucidChart has made diagram work, but we’ve had to spend a lot of time checking our spelling.

LucidChart has now upgraded and offers a spell check that supply you with suggestions for your misspelled word and you are able to set it to your preferred language.

Apart from this, they have also added a shape replacement tool as well as a tool that will automatically insert an additional shape into your flowchart and rearrange the order accordingly.
